Superb pocket fruit knife by Joseph Law, 1830

Description

Assayed at the Sheffield Assay Office with five hallmarks: the Sheffield crown, lion passant, George IV duty mark, maker’s mark “IL” and the date letter “g”. The knife is made with brass liners, iridescent mother-of-pearl scales with chamfered edges, silvered bolsters, an inlaid cartouche engraved with the original owner’s name “M. Whitton”, and a stepped silver back bar sleeve. The knife is in truly excellent condition with a strong ‘snap’ to the three blade positions indicating very little use over its 195-year life.
