English Pocket Fruit Knife Maker (Sheffield)
Bath Street, Sheffield
Joseph Law registered a silver mark with the Sheffield Assay Office in 1824. The same year Joseph Law, Jonathan Oxley and Henry Atkin registered a silver mark.
Another Joseph Law was listed in 1841 as a spring knife maker and innkeeper at Trippet Lane, Sheffield. It is possible this was the former’s son. However, this Joseph Law spent six months in jail and eventually went bankrupt in 1843.
Registered Maker’s Mark
Sheffield silver mark “IL” registered 20 September 1773 — just nine days after the Assay Office opened.
