Atkin Brothers – Sheffield Cutler and Pocket Fruit Knife Maker

After the death of Henry Atkin (qv) in 1853 three of his sons, Harry Wright Atkin, Edward Thomas Atkin and Frank Shaw Atkin took over the business and moved premises to Matilda Street, Sheffield.

The company thrived as a family-run business and a London office was opened and run by Harry Wright Atkin. Harry died in 1896 and Frank died in 1901 leaving Edward and Harry’s three sons running the business which became highly successful.

Edward retired in 1906. The firm continued to be run by family members and was incorporated as Atkin Brothers (Silversmiths) Ltd in 1925.

Atkin Brothers continued to use the founder’s silver mark and the firm continued to be family-run until 1958.

Pocket fruit knife made in 1863 by Atkin Brothers ten years after the death of their father,Henry, but still using his maker’s mark.
