George III pocket fruit fork, c.1798

Description

This 19th-century pocket fruit fork measures 3 inches closed and is made with brass liners, rounded iridescent mother-of-pearl scales, a gadrooned silver back bar sleeve and ‘Barlow’ style silvered bolsters. The solid silver two-tined fork has two hallmarks, the tri-cuspid George III duty mark and the lion passant. Unusually, there is a nail nick. The fork is engraved with the original owner’s name “M. Kelly”. Otherwise this 220 year old knife is in excellent condition.
