Description
This rare French pocket fruit knife was made in Paris around 1760.
It measures 2 5/8 inches closed and has a pistol grip shape with tortoiseshell scales decorated with gold piqué inlay work. There are raised bullseye rivets in gold.
The blade is hand-forged cast steel — pre-dating silver blades that became fashionable from around 1770.
This rare knife is in very good condition with just a small piece of tortoiseshell and a bullseye rivet missing from the reverse side near the hinge pin.
