Pocket fruit knife, 1877 with over-stamped maker’s mark

This fine teardrop shaped shadow pocket fruit knife dates from 1877 and was almost certainly made by James Fenton. However, the original. maker’s mark has been over-stamped by the mark of John Sherwood & Sons of Lichfield Street, Birmingham. The knife is 2 5/8 inches in the closed position and is made with brass liners, rounded iridescent mother-of-pearl scales and an inlaid silver cartouche. The silver spearpoint blade has five hallmarks: the Sheffield crown, lion passant, Queen Victoria head duty mark, date letter “K” for 1877 and the over-stamped maker’s mark “JS&S”. This fine pocket fruit knife is in excellent condition.
