Description
Arthur Worral Staniforth was a specialist fruit knife maker based in Holly Street, Sheffield between 1889 and the 1920s.
This fine example of a Staniforth knife measures 3 1/4 inches in the closed position.
It is made with brass liners, iridescent rounded mother-of-pearl scales, an inlaid silver cartouche engraved with the original owner’s initials. The knife has pinched silver bolsters and a finely tooled silver back bar sleeve.
The blade has four hallmarks: the Sheffield crown, the lion passant, the date letter “x” for 1915 and the maker’s mark “AS”.
This substantial pocket fruit knife is in excellent condition — the blade even retains a slight snap.
