Arthur Worral Staniforth was making folding silver fruit knives from his Holly Street workshop in Sheffield from the late 1880s until he died in 1919. This teardrop shaped example of a Staniforth fruit knife measures 3 inches closed. It is made with fine brass liners, iridescent mother-of-pearl scales, an inlaid silver cartouche and silver bolsters. The spearpoint blade has four hallmarks from the Sheffield Assay Office: the Sheffield crown, lion passant, date letter “x” for 1915 and the maker’s mark “AS”. This fine pocket fruit knife is in excellent condition.
